The profile train and rail technical department of the ARCELOR MITTAL Cabecera-Asturias GROUP and the HERLUCE R&D department jointly developed a comprehensive system, made to measure, for the engraving of lamination cylinders for the various rails that this company historically manufactures, under the famous brand ENSIDESA.

It was about eliminating a job, until now manual, carried out by a specialist in a completely handmade way, with the consequent problems that this entails.

The engraving work is carried out on the finishing cylinders of the rail. The original bar, with a thickness close to 300 x 300 mm, after passing through several cylinders that give it shape in different phases, the rail is laminated by the latter. finishing cylinder obtaining the proper shape and a perfectly marked and identified rail:

The Integral engraving system is made up of:

  • DESIGN (CAD): It integrates a specific CAD/CAM software of its own manufacture (HERLUCE), called NasCAD 2000. This software allows the use of all types of standardized characters, DIN 1451 type, as well as the design of new characters, symbols or marks of its own design.
  • MANUFACTURING (CAM): In the technical office, you work with the appropriate technical data (speed, feed, r.p.m., diameters,...) and the system automatically generates the CNC program for the development of the engraving machine around the cylinder.
  • MACHINE: The large-sized recording machine supports a cylinder almost 4 meters long and weighing nearly 9,000 kilos, and is made up of two linear axes that move a high-frequency head of up to 24,000 r.p.m. and a rotary axis that is in charge of turning the rolling cylinder through a precision electronic divider. The control unit has up to 4 axes with linear and circular positioning and interpolation capacity and integrates High Speed Machining software.
  • OBJECTIVE: The group intends to establish itself in the sector and try to create a recording standard for all types of cylinders for marking rails for trains, subways, etc... for continuous improvement in the manufacture of said rails.
